Volunteer Opportunities

As the Be Better initiative grows, we are always looking for good people who share the vision and want to make a difference.  Here are some of the things we will need help with:

 

Community Meet-Up Coordinators

Our community meet-ups will start off as in-person meetings in the Charlottesville, VA area.  We could use a couple of people to help coordinate host sites, setup, break down, and sometimes act as a moderator.

What it takes to be a Community Meet-Up Coordinator:

  • Time commitment- about 4-5 hours per month

  • Someone who is well connected within the hospitality scene in C-Ville

  • An outgoing individual who is not afraid to make some phone calls and build relationships

  • Someone who is organized and a clear communicator

  • The ability to field a few emails or calls from people interested in attending a meet-up and needs more info

Guest Speakers

As we begin to expand our schedule of local and virtual meet-ups, we would like to feature inspiring guest speakers to talk about their own experiences or teach different methods of self-care.  Some of the topics that come to mind are:

  • Industry professionals willing to share their own stories of mental health challenges and victories

  • Addiction and recovery

  • Nutrition and fitness for hospitality professionals

  • Stress Management

  • Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace

  • Meditation techniques

  • Life Balance

  • Leadership

Blog Contributors

 

Up until now, the only one contributing to the Be Better Blog has been our Founder, Michael Matarazzo.  We are looking for some additional contributors who have unique perspectives on our industry or are willing to share some personal experiences that will motivate and inspire others.  Contributing to our blog is a great way to gain exposure and get your message out.  All blog posts are sent out to our mailing list subscribers and linked to our social media platforms.

Become a Board Member

We will be putting together an advisory board made up of individuals with both excitement for the Be Better Mission as well as certain areas of expertise that can contribute to our overall growth.  We’re not looking for free services, but the knowledge in the form of advice and guidance during Board Meetings is an invaluable tool!

The time commitment for Board Members is probably the most significant of all of our volunteers and could require 10-15 hours of work per month.  Board Meetings would happen on a regular monthly schedule and will generally be 1 hour in duration.  It is expected that Board members are able to attend at least 10 of the 12 scheduled meetings annually.  We know your time is valuable and that you have other priorities in life so it is not recommended that you become a board member if you are unable to take on some small projects every now and then.

 

All board members will receive some perks like Be Better swag, coaching services for them or their teams, free access to special events, and free business exposure through all Be Better platforms.

Here are some of the skill sets we are looking for in our Board Members:

  • Marketing/Communications/Website design strategies

  • Business Law

  • Licensed Mental Health Professionals/Addiction Counselors

  • Accounting

  • Event Planning

Board Meeting
